LRP in 2018!

Another solid year of art/community-making that LRP had the privilege of capturing - THANK YOU to our amazing team - Jenny Chu, Jacob Marks, Rachel Marks and Rebecca Chun - for helping make this happen!

REVEL with Rainforest Action Network

ach year LRP has the privilege of documenting Rainforest Action Network's (RAN) event, REVEL. Here's a highlight video of this stellar organization's annual celebration of their successes, its show of gratitude to their community, and a reach for more and continued support in their work across the globe. We need RAN now more than ever!

Skywatchers: Community building with ABD Productions

Skywatchers is a community arts program conceived and directed by choreographer Anne Bluethenthal of ABD Productions, in which artist facilitators and Tenderloin residents co-create performance while discussing world events, forging relationships, and celebrating life. We are so grateful to have documented the Skywatchers events since its inception in 2011 and to produce this short documentary. Check it out, and get yourself on their contact list to be a part of this community!

Here-Now: A Call to Action

For the Bay Area folks, here is a panel discussion put on by Emerging Arts Professionals on the "State of the Network: Tactics Towards Action" with Michelle Mansour, Executive Director, Root Division;  Lex Leifheit, Executive Director,SOMArts; Ramekon O’Arwisters, Social Practice Artist – Facilitated by Melonie and Melorra Green, African American Arts and Culture Complex. Worth a watch/listen if you are producing art of any kind in the Bay...

the Love wedding

On occasion, LRRP does weddings! In celebration of Jessica Robinson Love and Carrie Baum Love's anniversary, I'm posting an old video of their beautiful ceremony!

Becky Tarbotton, a hero among heroes

For this post, I originally planned on sharing the Rainforest Action Network's awesome REVEL 2012 highlight video we put together, however because of the recent event of the unexpected death of Becky Tarbotton, my heart is elsewhere... Though I didn't know Becky personally, I had the honor of capturing a few of her speeches as RAN's incredible executive director over the last couple years.  Her presence struck me as one of the most graceful and brightest I had witnessed.  She made a giant room full of people hold complete attention, waiting with baited breath for what she had to say...and then she charmed them, grounded them, inspired them.  As Bill McKibben said on DemocracyNow! last week, "we have no surplus of feisty, smart, wonderful young environmental leaders.  It's an enormous loss."

I've re-watched this recent speech captured at REVEL 2012 many times now, coming away with the spirit of the work RAN has done and will continue to do and how she led with such light and charisma and heart.  Moreover, life is so so precious. I recommend taking a few minutes to watch her speech in tribute.

One of LRRP's strengths the ability to convey a story of community-based and site-oriented performance making! This year we worked with ABD Productions on their project Skywatchers, held at the Tenderloin National Forest/Luggage Store Gallery, partnered by the TNL's neighbors the Community Housing Partnership. This performance was part of San Francisco's Streetopia Festival. Take a look at this mini-documentary about Skywatchers. This short film is important for contextualizing the work and telling the story of the process, the heart of the work!

Rainforest Action Network's REVEL

I'm looking forward to Rainforest Action Network's annual event, REVEL in a few weeks. It's held at the California Academy of Sciences, a really cool place to host a party, and RAN is a vital organization in an effort to save the planet, literally.  RAN is a leading force in challenging corporations and their energy and environmental practices.  REVEL is a fun way of recognizing all the work that's been done throughout the year while raising funds to continue and also to honor key players in this effort - this year, Indonesian forest expert Dr. Bayu Wirayudha will be honored with the World Rainforest Award.

Last year 2011, RAN worked with LRRP to put together a highlight video that was quickly turned around and shared with the participants and donors as a thank you.  It's also used to promote this year's event.  It was a blast to put together:

Also, check out an edited piece of one the honorees of 2011, Naomi Klein's speech - it was all happening as the Occupy movement was forming, so there was a special air of excitement and possibility in the room.
